Modern Ranch Style Bedroom

This 1960s ranch house has undergone a complete transformation by interior design studio Brown Design Group, located in Los Angeles, California. The home belongs to the founder and his partner, who wished to retain the home's mid-century modern roots. The goal was to update the home with current design trends and bring natural light into the spaces. To do this, walls were torn down to produce more voluminous spaces. The original ceilings were low, so the designer opted for vaulted wood ceilings to create volume. Furniture arrangements were planned according to the new locally sourced furnishings they had purchased. They also incorporated unique finds they had picked up from their worldly travels.

Above: Although the kitchen is at the heart of the home, the designers wanted theirs to not be open concept. To keep it separate from the dining and living spaces, a wall of vintage factory windows was used as a divider. This creates a visually stunning aesthetic to the space. The kitchen features an integrated work space next to the wall, while the gorgeous wood flooring is from the Garrison Collection in the color European Oak Cloud.

What We Love: This ranch house transformation is quite simply beautiful, there is nothing we don't love about it. Every space so well connected, in complete harmony. There is ample personality exuded in every detail, from the designer pieces to the vintage finds. The indoor-outdoor connection is in a continuous flow. This is a home that really feels like you could live here and enjoy every moment… What are your thoughts, could you enjoy living here?

Comprised of hand knotted Tibetan wool, the Serpent area rug is a design by Kelly Wearstler (source). The bedroom connects to the outdoor patio through an expansive sliding window by Fleetwood (black anodized aluminum).
